Fossils is a song for voice with optional drone; in the recording above, by Charlotte Mundy, the drone is created by electronics, but any instrument(s) can provide it.

Fossils was commissioned by Jess Dandy to be performed on the limestone pavements of Cumbria, whose now-extinct life poet Norman Nicholson was describing in the poem.
