I do not flow
I do not flow ➾ I am not flowing ➾ I am dysfluent
“What if we flipped the script? What if the disabled body is not a lack but a site of unruly agency? What if sluggish tongues don’t fail at compulsory able-bodiedness but rather refuse its terms?” (Cheap Talk: Disability and the Politics of Communication, Joshua St. Pierre.)
I do not flow is, in part, about my own speech disfluency; the piece does not literally "stutter" but, instead, moves the flute out of time with itself and reflects on the fragile and precious nature of communication.
I'm very grateful Laura Cocks for their work on the project, and to Emory Arts for providing a grant to support its development.
