Everything

Everything is a 10 minute piece, written to be sung by musicians of any level of training over Zoom. Pitches are randomly selected from a gradually changing harmonic field. The lyrics are randomly selected from a word frequency list, moving from the most to least common; the words or combinations may be funny, poignant, bizarre, striking, or entirely nonsensical.

The piece is designed to give an opportunity for groups of people to make music simultaneously, even at a distance.

To perform this piece, you need 8 or more singers, each with a separate computer, in a Zoom call or similar video-conference. (It's recommended that you use headphones, to avoid audio feedback issues.)

You'll be given your notes and words to sing in a browser-based interface. Before attempting the full piece, you should go through this tutorial which will show you how it works:

When your group is ready to sing Everything, select your voice type here:

Soprano | Alto | Tenor | Bass

It's also possible to sing the piece in other languages, and singers using different languages can take part in the same performance. Click here to find the vocal parts in other languages. If you'd like to sing in a language that isn't on this list, email me and I will try to include it.

The piece doesn't use sheet music, but here are the ranges of the four voice types; you can also hear the range each one uses below. Choose the one that's most comfortable; if there are some notes that are too high or too low, that's OK! You might just need to sit a few short sections out.
